Weekly Email 57: The Leper Colony
Ia oranaaaa!! Hope you all have had a good week!
So Sr Kohl told me that apparently there's a part of our secteur with lepers??? I thought that didn't exist here but guess so! Luckily they're not contagious I would think? Sr Kohl said "didn't you see the lady pass by with no nose?" nope I missed that! hahah don't worry though, it's safe for us here ;)
This past week in Mahina:
- Mahina is so pretty! You just see the ocean stretch on for miles and miles, I love it! For the first time I actually remember I'm just on a dot in the middle of the ocean hahah we honestly forget that fact
- Actual address I've gotten here "In the valley of Ahonu, after the seventh speed bump"
- Funny thing about Tahitians, no matter what month of the year they always have random Christmas decorations up. So you'll pass by houses with random Santa stickers on the window or a "Joyeux Noel". Who knows why hahah
- I saw a white kid at church who was here on vacation, probably around 4 or 5 with blonde hair and blue eyes. It was so weird seeing a white kid again, I'm not used to it anymore! Going home will be a weird culture shock
- We went to visit an ami and he had a pet goat tied to his house. Pourqoui pas? The member with us thought it was so funny, apparently you don't see goats here often
- An ami made us a cake with I don't even know what in it. The only ingredients I know for sure that were in it was raisins and RHUM. Thanks but no thanks!
- A random guy stopped us when we were driving and told us "You guys are lucky, Christ was on foot" and then walked away. Thanks pal hahah
It's been a really good week!! Tuesday was cool, we met with a new ami for the first time. She was worried because she hadn't heard from her niece and had been trying to call her all morning, but couldn't get a hold of her. We suggested we pray together, and not even 5 minutes later, the phone rang. It was her niece calling to say she was all right. It was a cool experience for the ami and a nice reminder for us that God answers prayers! A lot of lessons fell through this week which is never very fun, but because of that we were able to meet with and talk to more new people! We really saw that we were where the Lord needed us. It's a super cool feeling to see that you are an instrument in the hands of the Lord.
Things are going really well here in Mahina!! It was super hard to leave Papeete but these past three weeks have been really really great! I really do love it here and am grateful I got transferred here, even though at first it wasn't at all what I wanted. God's plan is best!

Allora Sorella Kohl mi ha detto che a quanto pare c'é una parte del nostro settore con la lebbra??? Pensavo che non esistesse qui ma indovina un po'! Fortunatemente non sono contagiosi, credo? Sorella Kohl mi ha detto "Non hai visto la signora che è passata senza naso?". No, quella me la sono persa! Ahahah, non vi preoccupate però, siamo al sicuro qui ;)
La settimana scorsa a Mahina:
-Mahina è così bella! Si può vedere l'oceano che si estende per miglia e miglia, quanto mi piace! Per la prima volta mi sono ricordata veramente di essere su un puntino nel mezzo dell'oceano ahahah, sinceramente a volte ce ne dimentichiamo
-Il mio vero indirizzo qui "Nella valle di Ahonu, dopo il settimo dosso stradale"
-Cosa buffa dei taitiani, a prescindere da quale mese dell'anno sia, hanno sempre delle decorazioni natalizie appese. Così si passa davanti a case che hanno adesivi di Babbo Natale sulle finestre oppure quelli che dicono "Buon Natale". Chissà perché ahahah
-Ho visto un bambino bianco in chiesa che era qui in vacanza, probabilmente di 4 o 5 anni con i capelli biondi e gli occhi blu. È stato così strano vedere un bambino bianco di nuovo, non ci sono più abituata! Tornare a casa sarà uno strano shock culturale
- Siamo andate a trovare un simpatizzante ed aveva una capra legata a casa sua. Perché no? Il membro che stava con noi pensava che fosse buffo, a quanto pare non si vedono capre spesso qui
-Una simpatizzante ci ha fatto una torta con non so che cosa dentro. Gli unici ingredienti che sapevo di sicuro esserci erano l'uva passa e il RUM. Grazie ma no grazie!
-Un tipo a caso ci ha fermate mentre stavamo guidando e ci ha detto " Voi siete fortunate, Cristo andava a piedi" e poi se n'è andato. Grazie amico ahahah
È stata proprio una bella settimana! Martedì è stato forte, abbiamo incontrato una simpatizzante per la prima volta. Era preoccupata perché non aveva notizie di sua nipote e aveva provato a telefonarle tutta la mattina, ma non era riuscita a rintracciarla. Le abbiamo suggerito di pregare insieme e neppure 5 minuti dopo il telefono ha squillato. Era sua nipote che aveva chiamato per dirle che stava bene. È stata una bell'esperienza per questa simpatizzante e un bel modo per noi per ricordarci che Dio risponde alle preghiere!
Molte lezioni sono venute meno questa settimana il che non è mai divertente ma a causa di ciò abbiamo potuto incontrare e parlare con altre nuove persone! Abbiamo proprio visto che ci trovavamo dove il Signore aveva bisogno di noi. È un'esperienza troppo bella vedere che si è uno strumento nelle mani del Signore.
Le cose vanno veramente bene qui a Mahina!! È stato difficilissimo lasciare Pape'ete ma queste ultime tre settimane sono state molto, molto speciali! Amo veramente stare qui e sono felice di essere stata trasferita qui, anche se all'inizio non è stato per niente quello che volevo. Il piano di Dio è il migliore!
