Weekly Email 31: Life on the Big Island

I've officially been back on Tahiti and in Punaruu for one week now! The first few days were filled with some culture shock, since I was so used to a quiet life on little Huahine. We live right off a main road and there are cars EVERYWHERE which was kind of terryfing the first few days since we're on bike. One day I was borrowing a Sister's bike because mine was stilll on Huahine, but the seat was way too tall for me, one brake didn't work, and my skirt was too tight, which was just a recipe for disaster. I may or may not have fallen over on my bike in front of everyone more than once...
Also our chapel here has actual HALLWAYS and pews and three wards meet in it, which is way different from the little chapels in Fare and Haapu! Life is a lot more fast paced here, it's way different from Huahine but I love it still! It's been weird starting over in a new secteur and ward but everyone has been really nice!
My companion: My companion is Soeur Siri from Highland, Utah! She's the oldest of four and is 20, and did one year of school before the mission at Utah State. While on her mission she has devoloped a strong addiction to Taro ice cream and Tim Tams.
She is super cool and I love her a lot! Since she's new she's struggling a bit with the language but she works hard and I know she'll get there! I think we're a good team!
The district: Our district has EIGHT missionaries which was like a dream come true for me. Elder Madsen, Elder Harrison, Soeur Wright, and Soeur O'Hara are from Utah, and Elder Bayart is from France and Elder Tetuaearo is from New Caledonia! We have so much fun together and I love them all so much! Me and Soeur Siri live with the other two soeurs and it's SO fun!! I love being in a house of 4!
Me and Soeur Siri have been so blessed this week!! We have been blessed to have many miracles and it was awesome to be guided by the Spirit and to feel it very strongly. There have been crazy "coincidences" which I know came from God to help us with our work! One cool thing we did was teach an ami with his brother who's a missionary in Canada! He got permission to Skype in! Also me and Soeur Siri are going to start teaching someone from Ua Huka, a little island on the Marquises with only 400 people and 4 members! He is here for a few months, if we help get him baptized he'll be the first priesthood holder on Ua Huka!!! There aren't Elders there right now for the moment either so that's huge.
There have been a lot of funny moments this week too, it was like something straight out of a sitcom. One night Soeur Siri forgot the keys and we were locked out. We had our dinner with us and were starving and just couldn't wait, so we ate our poulet citron (lemon chicken) and chow mein (stir-fried noodles) with our hands hahaha I have been laughing so much this week, it's just too fun! ALSO there's an Italian here and he's coming to our next dinner appointment with a member family who knows him!!! Hooray! And Soeur O'Hara wants me to start teaching her Italian so let's gooooooo
Punaruu wasn't able to get a lot of attention last transfer because the sisters had to cover that and also another secteur, so me and Soeur Siri are excited to build it back up! We're already off to a good start! I love Punaruu and am really happy to be here with everyone!!!

Sono ufficialmente di nuovo a Tahiti e a Punaruu da una settimana ora come ora! I primi giorni sono stati caratterizzati da shock culturale dal momento che ero abituata alla vita tranquilla nella piccola Huahine. Abitiamo su una strada principale e ci sono macchine DAPPERTUTTO il che è stato terrificante nei primi giorni dato che andiamo in bici. Un giorno ho preso in prestito la bici di una Sorella perché la mia era ancora a Huahine, ma il sellino era troppo alto per me, un freno non funzionava e la mia gonna era troppo stretta, il che era la giusta combinazione per un disastro. Potrei essere o potrei non essere caduta dalla bici più di una volta di fronte a tutti....
Inoltre la nostra cappella qui ha veri e propri CORRIDOI e panche e tre rioni vi si riuniscono, il che è molto diverso dalle piccole cappelle a Fare e ad Haapu! La vita è molto più frenetica qui, è molto diversa da Huahine ma mi piace lo stesso! È stato strano ricominciare in una nuova zona e in un nuovo rione ma tutti sono stati davvero gentili!
La mia collega: La mia collega è Sorella Siri di Highland nello Utah! È la maggiore di quattro figli ed ha 20 anni e ha fatto un anno di college prima della missione a Utah State. In missione ha sviluppato una forte dipendenza al gelato Taro e ai Tim Tam.
È fortissima e le voglio un sacchissimo di bene! Dal momento che è nuova ha un po' di difficoltà con la lingua ma lavora sodo e so che ce la farà! Penso che siamo una bella squadra!
Il distretto: Il nostro distretto ha OTTO missionari il che è come un sogno che si avvera per me. Anziano Madsen, Anziano Harrison, Sorella Wright e Sorella O'Hara sono dello Utah e Anziano Bayart è francese e Anziano Tetuaearo è della Nuova Caledonia! Ci divertiamo tanto insieme e li amo tutti tantissimo! Io e Sorella Siri abitiamo con le altre due Sorelle ed è COSÌ divertente!! Amo stare in 4 nell'appartamento!
Io e Sorella Siri siamo state così benedette questa settimana!! Siamo state benedette ad avere avuto molti miracoli ed è stato bellissimo essere guidate dallo Spirito e di sentirlo così forte. Ci sono state "coincidenze" pazzesche che so essere venute da Dio per aiutarci nel nostro lavoro! Una cosa bella che abbiamo fatto è stato insegnare ad un simpatizzante con suo fratello che è un missionario in Canada! Ha avuto il permesso di poter fare Skype con noi! Inoltre io e Sorella Siri stiamo per insegnare a qualcuno di Ua Huka, un'isoletta delle Marchesi con sole 400 persone e 4 membri! È qui per alcuni mesi, se lo aiutiamo a battezzarsi sarà il primo detentore del sacerdozio a Ua Huka!!! Non ci sono neppure Anziani lì al momento così questa è una cosa grossa.
Ci sono stati anche un sacco di momenti divertenti questa settimana, sembrava fossero venuti fuori direttamente da una commedia. Una sera Sorella Siri ha dimenticato le chiavi e siamo rimaste chiuse fuori. Avevamo la cena con noi e avevamo tanta fame da non poter aspettare così abbiamo mangiato il nostro pollo al limone e chow mein (piatto asiatico a base di spaghettini saltati in padella) con le mani ahahah, ho riso così tanto questa settimana, è troppo divertente! E POI c'è un italiano qui e sta venendo a cena da una famiglia di membri che lo conoscono!!!! Evviva! E Sorella O'Hara vuole che io le cominci a insegnare l'italiano e vai!!!!
Punaruu non ha potuto ricevere molte attenzioni lo scorso trasferimento perché le Sorelle hanno dovuto prendersi cura di quella e di un'altra zona così io e Sorella Siri siamo emozionate di rimetterla in sesto! Abbiamo già cominciato bene! Amo Punaruu e sono davvero contenta di essere qui con tutti!!!
