Weekly Email 24: PLOT TWIST

Well transfer news is in (how is the transfer already over???) and to say I’m shocked would be an understatement! So Friday at noon me and Soeur Hemsley are in the car when one of the assistants to President calls. We were totally not expecting it to be for transfers because usually they call at 8pm, but it was! They told us that I was staying and Soeur Hemsley was getting transferred. WHAT?? We were caught so off guard. I had already been here 3 transfers so I was totally expecting to have to leave. Usually the missionary who’s been in an area longer leaves first. Soeur Hemsley is finishing her mission in April so I was so sure she was staying here and would be training. But nope! That means I’ll be doing 6 months in Huahine!! I totally didn’t expect that because it’s super rare, I only know of one other sister missionary who’s done that. Lately sisters have only been staying here 2 transfers. But it’s crazy because Soeur Hemsley is going to be STL on Raiatea, where she’s already served, and her new companion is finishing the same day as her! So it was all so unexpected, we were so in shock. Soeur Hemsley’s flight was at 9am the next day so we had less than 24 hours to get her all packed up and to go around saying goodbye to everyone. Craziness.

I always hate sending a companion off, it’s super sad! Me and Soeur Hemsley had gotten super tight too so I was sad to see her leave. It’s not always easy being the only two missionaries on the island, because you miss seeing other missionaries around, but we had so much fun!!! She was an awesome companion and I’m hoping that she’ll be able to come to a split next transfer and that I’ll be able to go to Zone Conference again.

But my new companion came Saturday morning and she’s SUPER awesome! Her name is Soeur Maitere and she’s Tahitian! She’s been out 5 months, like me, and served 4 months in Pirae and 6 weeks in Punaaia (back on Tahiti). This is her first time on Huahine and she’s loving it! She also told me that Tahiti is not as pretty and calm as it is here, that’s what everyone tells me hahah Also since she’s Tahitian that means no more English for me! It’s going to be French 24/7 from now on, thank the heavens I’m not a new missionary anymore and actually capable of that. I’m excited for my French to be able to improve even more! Also I’m the driver now, I hadn’t driven stick in almost 3 months but luckily once I started it came back really fast. Shoutout to Soeur Miller to doing such a good job teaching me back in October!

I remember in December when I found out that Elders wouldn’t be coming back this transfer I was so upset. But I told myself I could be upset OR I could trust in God’s plan, count my blessings (which I had a lot of), and just forget myself and go to work! So that’s what I did and as soon as I did that I wasn’t sad ever again! I had so much fun doing another transfer in Haapu with Soeur Hemsley! And now Elders still aren’t coming back because President is sending SISTERS! They’re coming in on Wednesday morning and we’re going to go pick them up! Huahine hasn’t had all sisters in a while, but it’s going to be fun!

Funny Moments this week:

The homeless guy who’s always there in the morning when Soeur Hemsley and I go running told us we’re beautiful and said “I LOVE YOU!” in English hahaha luckily he’s harmless. He honestly just reminds me of a baby because he has like 0 teeth. Also he yells out “I know America! HOLLYWOOD, DISNEYLAND, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, TIJUANA”. (fyi, Tijuana is in Mexico)
This weird Australian guy at the post office on Wednesday told us that polygamy is coming back and that he has 3000 girls on his computer?? Then he showed us all his messages from some app called the Asian Date Team. It was so weird.
We were in the car one day for Sauvetage and one of the ward members with us started feeling nauseous so Mami Tahia jokingly said, “Seigneur, aide cette soeur de ne jeter pas tout dans la voiture”. It was so funny!

Well I was definitely not expecting to be able to stay here but I’m super excited for this transfer! I think it’s going to be super fun and me and Soeur Maitere are going to get a lot of good work done! And I get at least 6 more weeks with the people and island I love so much! I’m a little sad to have to wait longer to see my friends on Tahiti, but it’s ok, I’ll see them again someday soon! I have 100% confidence in God’s plan and apparently He still has work for me to do here so bring it on!!

Ebbene i trasferimenti sono stati comunicati (come può essere già finito quest'ultimo????) e dire che sono scioccata sarebbe un eufemismo! Allora venerdì a mezzogiorno io e Sorella Hemsley eravamo in macchina quando uno degli assistenti del Presidente ha chiamato. Non ci aspettavamo completamente che fosse per i trasferimenti perché di solito chiamano alle 20, ma lo era! Ci hanno detto che io sarei rimasta e che Sorella Hemsley veniva trasferita. COSA?? Siamo state colte così di sorpresa. Sono qui già da 3 trasferimenti e quindi mi aspettavo proprio di dover andare via. Solitamente il missionario che sta nella zona da più tempo va via per primo. Sorella Hemsley finirà la missione ad aprile così ero sicura che sarebbe rimasta qui e che avrebbe continuato ad addestrare. Invece no! Questo significa che starò per 6 mesi a Huahine!! Non me lo aspettavo proprio perché succede davvero molto raramente. So solo di un'altra sorella missionaria a cui è successo questo. Di recente le sorelle sono state qui solo per due trasferimenti. Ma è pazzesco perché Soeur Hemsley diventerà STL a Raiatea, dove ha già servito e la sua nuova collega finirà insieme a lei! Perciò era completamente inaspettato, eravamo così scioccate. Il volo di Sorella Hemsley era alle 9 di mattina il giorno seguente così avevamo meno di 24 ore per farle fare le valigie e per andare in giro a salutare tutti quanti. Pazzesco.

Odio sempre vedere andare via le mie colleghe, è tristissimo! Io e Sorella Hemsley siamo diventate anche molto affiatate così è stato triste vederla partire. Non è sempre facile essere le uniche missionarie sull'isola, perché ci manca vedere gli altri missionari intorno, ma ci siamo così divertite!!! È stata una collega stupenda e spero che potrà venire a fare uno split il prossimo trasferimento e che io potrò andare di nuovo alla Conferenza di Zona.

Ma la mia collega è arrivata sabato mattina ed è SUPER fantastica! Si chiama Sorella Maitere ed è taitiana! È in missione da 5 mesi, come me, e ha servito per 4 mesi a Pirae e 6 settimane a Punaaia (di nuovo a Tahiti). Questa è la prima volta che viene a Huahine e le piace molto! Mi ha anche detto che Tahiti non è bella e calma come qui, questo è quello che mi dicono tutti, ahah. Inoltre, poiché è taitiana questo significa niente più inglese per me! Sarà francese 24 ore al giorno, 7 giorni alla settimana per me da ora in poi, grazie al cielo non sono più una missionaria novella e anzi sono capace di farlo. Sono emozionata che potrò perfezionare il mio francese ancora di più. Inoltre ora porto io la macchina, non guido usando il cambio manuale da tre mesi ma fortunatamente da quando ho iniziato mi è tornato in mente molto velocemente. Urrà per Sorella Miller per aver fatto un così buon lavoro insegnandomi a guidare con il cambio manuale a ottobre!

Mi ricordo quanto ero irritata a dicembre quando ho saputo che gli Anziani non sarebbero venuti in quel trasferimento. Ma mi sono detta che potevo essere irritata OPPURE potevo fidarmi del piano di Dio, contare le mie benedizioni (ed erano tante) e dimenticare me stessa e andare a lavorare! Così questo è ciò che ho fatto e non appena ho fatto quello non sono mai più stata triste! Mi sono divertita così tanto nel fare un altro trasferimento ad Haapu con Sorella Hemsley! E neppure ora gli Anziani verranno perché il Presidente sta mandando le SORELLE! Arriveranno mercoledì mattina e le andremo a prendere! Huahine non ha avuto solo Sorelle da un pezzo, ma sarà divertente!

Momenti divertenti questa settimana:

Il tipo senzatetto che è sempre lì la mattina quando io e Sorella Hemsley andiamo a correre ci ha detto che siamo belle e ha detto "I LOVE YOU" in inglese ahahah fortunatamente è innocuo. Onestamente mi fa venire in mente un neonato perchè ha 0 denti. E grida pure "Conosco l'America, HOLLYWOOD, DISNEYLAND, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, TIJUANA". (Per vostra informazione, Tijuana è in Messico)
Questo tipo strano australiano all'ufficio postale mercoledì ci ha detto che la poligamia sta tornando di moda e che lui ha 3000 ragazze nel suo computer?? Poi ci ha mostrato tutti i suoi messaggi da una certa app che si chiama Asian Date Team. Era così strano.
Eravamo in macchina un giorno per fare lavoro di riattivazione e uno dei membri del rione che stava con noi ha cominciato ad avvertire la nausea così Mami Tahia ha detto scherzando, “Seigneur, aide cette soeur de ne jeter pas tout dans la voiture”. ("Signore, aiuta questa sorella a non vomitare tutto in macchina"). È stato così da ridere!

Ebbene, sicuramente non mi aspettavo di poter stare qui ma sono super emozionata per questo trasferimento! Penso che sarà molto divertente e che io e Sorella Maitere faremo un gran bel lavoro insieme! E ho ancora 6 settimane per poter stare con le persone e sull'isola che io amo tanto! Sono un po' triste di dover aspettare ancora per poter rivedere i miei amici a Tahiti ma va bene, li rivedrò un giorno non troppo lontano! Ho fiducia nel piano di Dio al 100% e a quanto pare Lui ha ancora lavoro da fare per me qui e allora diamoci sotto!!
