Weekly Email 10: If You Like Piña Coladas and Getting Caught in the Rain

Ia orana everyone!! I can’t believe another week has gone by already!
First off, last week I barely got to write back anyone outside of my immediate family, so sorry about that friends! I would love to answer everyone right away but there just isn’t enough time, so know that if I don’t answer immediately it’s only because of that! I could have 7 hours to email and it still wouldn’t be enough haha. But I love love love getting emails and I appreciate them so much! Just know that if you write me I will write back, even if it takes me 2 or 3 p-days! I’m not ignoring anyone ;)
So to explain my subject line, I had my first Piña Colada this week at the Huahine Yacht Club! SANS ALCOOL of course! (No alcohol!) but it was super good cuz it had authentic pineapple and coconut in it! Also here it rains on and off some days. I’ve never seen it rain so hard in my life! Sometimes I wonder if a hurricane’s coming that no one told me about because it’ll be super rainy and windy.
This past week on Huahine:
So on Monday I told my companion that I never get sick so of course I got sick this week! It was super super weird. I started off feeling all tingly in my stomach and weird, like the butterflies you get in your stomach when you’re on a rollercoaster. Then I started getting super hot and was sweating a ton, but I didn’t have a fever. The next day I was having stomach cramps and started feeling super hot and cold at the same time. My face was burning up but my arms had goosebumps. Then during lunch Soeur Miller was like « Your lips are turning purple!! » and also I started losing feeling in my fingers. They got all tingly like they were falling asleep. It was super weird!! There’s no hospital on Huahine, fun fact, and all the doctor’s offices were closed that day. I just took some Tylenol and tried to sleep. Then the next day when I woke up I was completely fine! So yeah I have no idea what my body was doing.
A member here told me I look like an Italian movie star hahaha also another member gave me a Tahitian name, Heitiare. It means flower crown.
The night sky here is beautiful!! I love looking at the stars!
So last Monday on P-day I was with Soeur Miller and the Elders. We were trying to drive up this super steep muddy unpaved road on the mountain (bad idea). The car got stuck in mud and it took forever for us to get out, and then the car started smoking because the engine was overheating! It was all good in the end though. So there’s my car adventure for you. Also the APs (Assistants to the Mission President) asked Soeur Miller to teach me to drive stick so that’s happening this upcoming week SOS!!
Amis: sad news but Herenui’s family wants to push back her baptism until April for her dad’s birthday! So no more baptism on October 28. Super super sad but the rest of her family is recent converts and really active so ce n’est pas très grave. Our lesson with Lucy went well, some of her neighbors came to listen too! Raunui is progressing well, her dad doesn’t really want her to get baptized so we’re working on that. Aitu is SO CLOSE. We weren’t able to meet with him this past week but he is so ready for baptism! His parents are recent converts and I can’t wait for them all to get sealed as a family in the temple! John and Joseph were supposed to get baptized three months ago but because of something with the social system (they’re foster kids) we’ve had to wait. So hopefully we can set a date for them in December! All our amis right now are kids ages 8-12 except for our ami Manua!
Every week here we have sauvetage, which is when we go with members to visit less active members. This week we went with Bishop and another member. They spoke to the couple the whole time in Tahitian so I had no idea what was going on. When it was my turn to speak I just bore my testimony in Tahitian and told them we love them. It was super simple but I’m happy I can at least tell them that, and that I know how to say the truths that although simple are the most important!
Sunday in church was the Primary Program! All the kids looked so cute and they all had flowers! John and Aitu gave talks and it was so good!!
I had fresh pineapple yesterday and it was SO GOOD. I’ll never be able to eat fruit and fish once I go back home because it won’t be the same.
There’s a guy in our ward here, a recent convert, who is deaf and mute. Teaching him with Soeur Miller is definitely interesting. He can’t read, so teaching him involves a lot of pictures, whiteboard drawings, and hand gestures.
I just want to finish with some of my all-time favorite missionary scriptures in Doctrine and Covenants!
24:12 « And at all times, and in all places, he shall open his mouth and declare my gospel as with the voice of a trump, both day and night. And I will give unto him strength such as is not known among men. »
31:3 « Lift up your hearts and rejoice, for the hours of your mission is come: and your tongue shall be loosed, and you shall declare glad tidings of great joy unto this generation. »
68:6 « Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come. »
84:88 « And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up. »
I love these scriptures so much! I know God and the Spirit are always with us in our work! I am of « good cheer » knowing that God is with me! I know Christ lives and loves us and I love being able to help people come closer to Him.
Quick shoutout to my brother Alessio who turned 15 yesterday! WOOOO! Also congrats to my cousin Erica for getting called to the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission representing Italy!!!! Love you guys!

Prima di tutto, la scorsa settimana non sono riuscita a scrivere a nessuno all'infuori della mia immediata famiglia, sono così mortificata, amici! Vorrei tanto poter rispondere a tutti subito ma non c'è abbastanza tempo, così sappiate che se non rispondo immediatamente è solo per questo motivo! Potrei avere 7 ore a disposizione per scrivere email e non basterebbero neppure ahah. Ma amo amo amo ricevere email e li apprezzo tanto! Sappiate però che io vi scriverò se voi lo fate, anche se mi occorrono 2 o 3 p-day! Non sto ignorando nessuno ;)
Allora, per spiegare il titolo di questo email, ho bevuto la mia prima Piña Colada al Huahine Yacht Club! SENZA ALCOL, naturalmente! Ma era buonissimo perché era fatto con cocco e ananas autentici!
Qui piove e non piove a volte. Non ho mai visto piovere così forte in vita mia! A volte mi chiedo se stia arrivando un uragano di cui non ci ha avvisato nessuno perché all'improvviso c'è un sacco di vento e di pioggia.
La settimana scorsa a Huahine:
Lunedì ho detto alla mia collega che non mi ammalo mai e quindi naturalmente questa settimana sono stata male! È stato molto, molto strano. Ho cominciato con il sentire degli strani vuoti di stomaco come quando si va sulle montagne russe. Poi ho cominciato a sentirmi molto accaldata e a sudare molto ma non avevo la febbre. Il giorno dopo ho avuto i crampi allo stomaco e ho cominciato a sentire caldo e freddo allo stesso tempo. La mia faccia era bollente ma avevo la pelle d'oca sulle braccia. Poi a pranzo Soeur Miller mi fa "Le tue labbra stanno diventando viola!!" e anche stavo perdendo la sensibilità nelle dita. Ho sentito dei formicolii come se stessero per addormentarsi. Era stranissimo!! Non c'è ospedale a Huahine, fatto interessante, e tutti gli uffici dei dottori erano chiusi quel giorno. Ho preso solo del Tylenol e ho cercato di dormire. Poi quando mi sono svegliata il giorno dopo stavo benissimo! Così, sì, non ho idea di quello che stesse facendo il mio corpo.
Un membro della chiesa mi ha detto che sembro un'attrice italiana ahahah e anche un altro membro mi ha dato un nome taitiano, Heitiare. Significa corona di fiori.
Il cielo la notte qui è bellissimo!!!! Amo guardare le stelle!
Lunedì scorso, durante il P-day, mi trovavo con Sorella Miller e gli Anziani. Stavamo cercando di guidare su una strada di montagna in salita molto ripida e molto fangosa che non era asfaltata (cattiva idea). La macchina si è bloccata nel fango e c'è voluto un sacco di tempo per venirne fuori e poi la macchina ha cominciato a fare fumo perché il motore si era surriscaldato! Alla fine è andato tutto bene però. Così questa è la mia avventura della macchina per voi. Inoltre gli Assistenti del Presidente di Missione hanno chiesto a Sorella Miller di insegnarmi ad usare il cambio manuale della macchina e questo succederà questa settimana. SOS!!
Simpatizzanti: la notizia triste è che la famiglia di Herenui vuole rimandare il suo battesimo fino ad aprile per il compleanno di suo padre! Così niente più battesimo il 28 ottobre. Molto, molto triste ma gli altri della famiglia si sono convertiti da poco e sono molto molto attivi così non è troppo male. La nostra lezione con Lucy è andata bene, alcuni dei suoi vicini sono anche venuti ad ascoltarla! Raunui sta progredendo bene, suo padre non vuole in realtà che lei si battezzi quindi stiamo lavorando su quello. Aitu è COSÌ VICINO. Non abbiamo potuto incontrarci con lui questa settimana ma è così pronto per il battesimo! I suoi genitori sono recenti convertiti e non vedo l'ora che possano tutti suggellarsi come famiglia al tempio! John e Joseph avrebbero dovuto battezzarsi tre mesi fa ma a causa di qualcosa con il sistema sociale (sono in affidamento) abbiamo dovuto aspettare. Quindi speriamo di poter fissare una data per loro a dicembre! Tutti i nostri simpatizzanti al momento sono ragazzi dagli 8 ai 12 anni eccetto che per Manua!
Abbiamo sauvetage ogni settimana, il che vuol dire che andiamo con i membri a visitare quelli meno attivi. Questa settimana siamo andati con il vescovo e un altro membro. Hanno parlato con la coppia tutto il tempo in taitiano così non avevo idea di quello che stesse succedendo. Quando è arrivato il mio turno di parlare ho solo portato la mia testimonianza in taitiano e ho detto loro che li amo. È stato molto semplice ma sono contenta che almeno posso dire quello a loro e che so come esporre le verità che sebbene semplici sono le più importanti!
Domenica in chiesa abbiamo avuto la sacramentale della Primaria (dei bambini)! Tutti i bambini erano così carini e avevano tutti dei fiori! John and Aitu hanno fatto il discorso ed è stato così bello!!
Ho mangiato un'ananas fresca ieri ed era COSÌ BUONA. Non potrò mai mangiare frutta e pesce di nuovo quando torno a casa perché non sarà più la stessa cosa.
C'è un ragazzo nel nostro rione qui, un recente convertito, che è sordomuto. Insegnare a lui con Sorella Miller è sicuramente interessante. Non sa leggere quindi per insegnare usiamo molte immagini, disegni alla lavagna e segni con le mani.

24:12 "E in ogni momento e in ogni luogo, che apra la bocca e proclami il mio Vangelo come con voce di tromba, sia di giorno che di notte. E gli darò forza, tale che non si è vista fra gli uomini."
31:3 "Rincuorati e gioisci, poiché è giunta l’ora della tua missione; e la tua lingua sarà sciolta e tu proclamerai buone novelle di grande allegrezza a questa generazione."
68:6 "Pertanto, siate di buon animo e non temete, poiché io, il Signore, sono con voi e vi starò vicino; e voi porterete testimonianza di me, sì, Gesù Cristo; che io sono il Figlio del Dio vivente, che fui, che sono e che sto per venire."
84:88 "E con chiunque vi riceve, là sarò io pure, poiché andrò davanti al vostro volto. Sarò alla vostra destra e alla vostra sinistra, e il mio Spirito sarà nel vostro cuore e i miei angeli tutt’attorno a voi per sostenervi."
Amo queste scritture così tanto! So che Dio e lo Spirito Santo sono sempre con noi nel nostro lavoro! Sono di "buon animo" sapendo che Dio è con me! So che Cristo vive e che ci ama e amo poter portare la gente più vicina a Lui.
Un breve riconoscimento a mio fratello Alessio che ha compiuto 15 anni ieri! EVVIVA! E anche congratulazioni a mia cugina Erica per essere stata chiamata a servire nella Missione della Piazza del Tempio di Salt Lake City in rappresentanza dell'Italia!!!!! Vi amo, ragazzi!
